Watercourt
Suffolk Door Latches
Originally
introduced in East Anglia, Suffolk latches were
first used in the 17th Century until around 1825.
We produce a standard Suffolk type latch hand forged
from 12mm dia round bar. The overall latch length
is approximately 210mm and comes complete with
knock in staple and keep, together with lifter
bar and all fixings. The Watercourt arrow head
shaped cusps (left) and thumb plate match those
on our complementary range of handles, cupboard
latches and door hinges, all of which are an ideal
accompaniment. We also offer the Bean-shaped cusps
(right). We can supply latches complete with steel
locking pin, attached with leather tie.
(Available in waxed black, painted black and clear
laquer finish - select below)
We can also supply, on request, Suffolk latches with
different shaped cusps to suit individual requirements.
We can manufacture larger versions of this latch
to order, in 16mm and 20mm round bar. All the design
features are the same except the oversall latch lengths
are approx 250mm (10") and 300mm (12") respectively
with the components proportionally larger. Please
call us to discuss your needs.

Watercourt hand forged traditional ironmongery for doors
and windows, door latches, handles, cupboard latches, Tee
hinges, cabinet and cupboard hinges, hooks, window catches,
window stays. British made traditional ironmongery for property
renovation and restoration.

A range of British made traditional ironmongery - Watercourt
products are handmade using traditional blacksmith techniques
in the beautiful and rural setting of the North Yorkshire Moors.
Established in 2005, Watercourt recognises that there is a need
for an affordable, quality alternative in the traditional ironmongery
market which has been flooded with mass- produced, inferior imported
products. This has created a great lack of choice for the discerning
developer or home renovator, looking for single items or to furnish
a whole property.
We believe we can offer excellent quality door and window furniture
and bespoke ironwork at truly competitive prices.
We offer a standard range of ironmongery in addition to our bespoke
custom-made items where our non-use of modern manufacturing techniques
such as laser cutting offers us the flexibility to give customers
exactly what they want at a competitive price
Fixtures and fittings are vitally
important in enabling an old property to retain its character.
Early vernacular fittings in particular have a unique charm
and interest that is the product of their manufacture, their
style and ornamentation, and their age. Their removal or
replacement by inappropriate reproductions gives an immediate
modern or fake feel to a house, even if its walls and roof
are hundreds of years old. Read more of the article
